Maternity Style: Club Monaco Dress

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

This Club Monaco dress is becoming a major part of my regular maternity rotation- ironic because at this point in the pregnancy (6 weeks to go!) I feel pretty huge and this is one of the few non-maternity dresses I have kept in my closet. I went up a couple of sizes, but the fit is great, and it works so nicely with black or brown tights.

Oh- yeah- fun side note- I wear the Assets by SPANX tights literally every single day- I recommend going online and ordering a 10 month supply as soon as the test says “YES”- I am down to like 2 pairs (Norman chewed a hole in my last black pair last night!) and kind of freaking out about it.

I took this particular photo a couple of weeks ago- these days, I have been relegated to flats (oh, the HORROR!). But gotta say- with my black Sue London ballet flats, the dress still looks good. Now that is the sign of a good purchase!

Maternity Style: My 2 Favorite D’s- Dannijo & DKNY

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Have to give this DKNY dress a shout out- been meaning to blog about it because it really is an incredible dress and it isn’t maternity, which is an added bonus. It is this stretchy jersey-esque but not jersey material- I want to call it tencel but think I may be totally making that up- and it is very fitted but the ruching makes that okay.  I wish I could find it online to link to a better photo, but no such luck.  Got it a couple months ago at the DKNY store on Madison Ave in NYC and I have a feeling it is going to be a life-long closet staple.

And of course- because it wouldn’t be an outfit post without Dannijo involved- this Raya necklace is one of my new favorites for the season. The more bored I get with trying to wear the same key pieces all the time in the last 7 weeks of this whole maternity style thing, the more important my giant Dannijo pieces become to every outfit.

Maternity Style: Love a Drape-y Blazer

Friday, December 17th, 2010

Well kids- sorry I have slacked on blog posting. Basically- had a major virus issue with my site and had to get it rebuilt (good times, good times) and then I was kind of gun shy to get back up and running again in fear of another attack. Sad but true- this blogging stuff totally overwhelms me sometimes- hate not being able to fix things myself when they go awry, and never being able to understand why they go awry in the first place.

Oh- and on top of all that- I was shooting the second season of my MSN Show Beauty BFF and dealing with getting construction underway for Baby Falik’s nursery. Has been QUITE a December. All good things though- well, with the exception of the blog debacle.

Anyway- I have some Maternity Style posts to catch up on- here is a look that I wore on set this past Friday- the drape-y (is that a word?) blazer is from H&M and I am obsessed with it. Piled on a giant Dannijo necklace, my go-to Citizens of Humanity maternity jeans, and- for the final time- my beloved Brian Atwood Maniac pumps.  At 32 weeks, I have officially had to retire those beauties- tear…

Maternity Style: Lady-Who-Lunches-Inspired Layering

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

There are two things I want to point out in this Maternity Style post- hence it is a waist up shot and not my usual head-to-toe situation.

1: Bashful Bump Maternity Bodysuit- This thing is amazing. The fabric is soft and gorgeous- even my stylist who sees it all was incredibly impressed by the quality. It fits flawlessly and is quite possibly the most perfect layering piece ever made for pregnant women. I know you can’t really see it in the photo- and I am not emotionally strong enough to post a photo of myself in just a body suit for all to see at the moment, sorry!- but check out their website, it is well worth the click.

2: Rosie Pope Maternity Princess Jacket: In real life (read: when I don’t weigh 25+ pounds more than normal and/or have a tiny human taking up residence in my belly) I wear blazers almost daily. But finding form fitting jackets when pregnant has proven to be quite challenging. This is the only one I have found so far that looks lady-like, as opposed to “stolen from the man in your life’s closet”-like. The Chanel-inspired boucle finish is always chic, and it is amazing over a M(aternity)LBD when you want to hide your arms (which, for the record, I always do) or paired with skinny jeans and ballet slipper flats.

Maternity Style: TopShop and Zara

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

This weekend I started shooting the second season of my MSN show, Beauty BFF. Long days but such a fun experience- and this time around, I was able to snag a stylist to help me pull together fun outfits. This was a totally new experience for me and I have to say, I am kind of spoiled for life now. Having someone go out and pull dozens of unique outfit options for you- things you would probably never think to try yourself- is quite a treat. Ewa Davis, my stylist, has such a great eye, and even though I may have gotten a tad cranky trying so many things on, it was WELL worth it when I showed up for each episode with a fab outfit on the hanger, ready to go, accessories and all. Seriously, this may top a professional blowout as the ultimate indulgence.

This outfit features a TopShop sweater (I had actually bought the exact same one in the non-maternity version a few months back- this one is from their maternity line and fits SO much better) and a super soft Zara vest. I am very into the monochromatic camel thing- reminds me of that look from the Chloe Fall 2010 ad campaign which I absolutely adore.  The tights are my usual Assets Maternity by Spanx ones, and of course, no outfit is complete without my beloved Gucci boots.

On the accessories front- as always, it is all about Dannijo. The Kamini earrings look like the most chic medieval torture devices ever (but note, even though they look like they would be really heavy, they are so light and easy to wear) and I also have on this beautiful bracelet that I need to post a better photo of soon because you all will love it.

Maternity Style: A Little GAP, Some Veronique & A Faux Fur Find

Friday, November 19th, 2010

I was very pleasantly surprised by the fit and softness of this Gap Maternity Sweater- we shall see how it holds up after a washing or two, but so far, so good. And something tells me I will be wearing these Veronique Maternity Black Pants as long as wearing maternity clothes post-baby is acceptable. They are the same amazing fabric as this pair of Theory pants I had in college that never wrinkled and always kept their structured shape- super flattering and comfy at the same time. The Brian Atwood Maniac heels were a bold choice as I teeter on 7 months- and teeter in general- but have to squeeze every last wear out of them while I can.

Jury is still out on my TJ Maxx faux fur cropped jacket- fun $19 impulse buy a few weeks back- not sure how I feel about it just yet. What do you guys think? Too much or just enough?

Oh- and as an aside, but, um, can I just be a dork for one second and say how excited I am to hear that Rachel Zoe is indeed pregnant solely for the fact that her maternity style is going to be pretty damn incredible? Kind of wish she was more in sync with me so I could have been inspired by her outfits for the past 5 months or so, but hey, I will take what I can get when it comes to dressing around le bump.

Maternity Style: Isabella Oliver Camel Coat

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

Early on I decided that the one maternity style item I would splurge on would be a winter coat. I will be wearing it almost daily, so it is totally worth it, right?

Well, let me tell you, this gorgeous Isabella Oliver Woollen Trench is worth every penny. Chic yet still adorable in a way only pregnant women can get away with (which I can’t explain but I think you know what I mean), it is the ultimate camel coat for the season and I think if I wasn’t pregnant and saw someone wearing it, I would be jealous.  It is soft, it is warm, it is perfectly cut- and with the collar popped, it is even more amazing.

I never thought I could feel sophisticated waddling around Manhattan, but thanks to Isabella Oliver, I am finding a little extra spring in my step these days.

Oh- and for more maternity trench coat options, check out the latest post from Pregnant Fashionista.

Maternity Style: My Attempt at Saturday Night Out on the Lower East Side Chic

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Yeah. so as this shot shows- things are just kind of getting bigger all around. Oh, one of these days I will have a complete and total meltdown about it, but for now, just going with it and repeating to myself daily- you will lose this after the baby is born.  Considering I was born sans the willpower gene, this remains to be seen but hey, I like to try and think positive.

We went out with friends to Kenmare on Saturday night- I have kind of avoided these cool places while pregnant simply because popping out of my clothes and not being able to throw back a few cocktails was all the more incentive to stay home in my pjs. But a girl can only play hermit for so long.

Busted out one of my many pairs of maternity J Brand jeans- these are the pencil leg in Indigo. Topped with a GapMaternity cami (they are the best, highly recommend getting a few- nice and long and they don’t roll up) and then finally got some wear out of an Alice + Olivia velvet blazer that I bought 2 years ago and still had the tags in it. It always felt too big- but now, it fits like a slightly snug glove. The DKNY wedges I blogged about a couple weeks ago were the perfect footwear- comfortable and stable, and the olive green kinda didn’t match at all but enhanced the outfit in an eclectic way I think. Threw on a Dannijo collar style necklace that may have been pushing it in the maternity style department, but I couldn’t resist. Granted, after dessert I sort of felt like I was strangling myself in the name of accessorizing… All in all a fun night- especially because I didn’t wake up with any sign of a hangover on Sunday morning.

Maternity Style: A Perfect Thread Social Dress (Yes, Another One)

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

If I could wear this dress 2-3 times a week without getting suspicious stares, I would.

The dress is Thread Social- as you all know by now, one of my go-to labels, and happens to be the coziest jersey fabric ever. It definitely benefits from the definition of a thick belt (in my opinion these days, however, belting makes everything better), so I threw on a great basic belt I picked up at H&M a few weeks ago.  Then, went with patterned Assets by SPANX tights (for anyone ever pregnant in the fall/winter, I recommend ordering at least 10 pairs, you will live in them, they feel great on and are nice and opaque) and my new and very beloved Be&D Whitbey boots. So as not to compete with the belt, I resisted the temptation to go with a big chunky necklace and instead wore two gorgeous, delicate Lia Sophia matte black metal with dark gray crystal ball strands.

Maternity Style: Thread Social Bow Dress

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Typically I am not a fan of non-maternity dresses that aren’t predominantly jersey or some sort of stretchy material because they can be borderline potato-sack-esque. I fell in love with this Thread Social dress when I featured it in a trend segment I did for LXTV- and figured what the heck- I would go up about 4 sizes and get one for myself. I love the print, I of course love that there is a bow situation, and I tend to love anything and everything Thread Social.

Paired with a my beloved J. Crew skinny belt, it actually works quite well as a maternity dress. Without the belt, in all fairness- not so much…Black tights, my go-to furry boots and minimal accessories (the bow really is all you need, otherwise it can feel like too much- and I have achieved what I think (hope!) is a rotation-worthy maternity look. Agree?
